いま、ほんをよんでいます。

ている can describe an ongoing action, a repeated activity, or a resulting state depending on the verb. 今食べています means eating now; 結婚しています means married, not necessarily getting married now. 知っています means know; the usual negative is 知りません. 住んでいます describes residence.

いま、ほんをよんでいます。

母は今、料理をしています。
はははいま、りょうりをしています。
My mother is cooking now.
弟は今、寝ています。
おとうとはいま、ねています。
My younger brother is sleeping now.
私は東京に住んでいます。
わたしはとうきょうにすんでいます。
I live in Tokyo.
その人を知っています。
そのひとをしっています。
I know that person.
その名前は知りません。
そのなまえはしりません。
I do not know that name.
父は今、働いています。
ちちはいま、はたらいています。
My father is working now.
姉は結婚しています。
あねはけっこんしています。
My older sister is married.
