Counters and quantities

Choose a counter for the object: 人 people, 本 long objects, 枚 flat objects, 冊 books, 匹 small animals, 回 occurrences. General つ counts are ひとつ, ふたつ, みっつ, よっつ, いつつ, むっつ, ななつ, やっつ, ここのつ, とお. One/two people are ひとり/ふたり. Place a quantity before the verb: 本を二冊買います.
